Scotland celebrates its role in film

Scotland has played a part in a surprising number of films, from the obvious (Braveheart, Trainspotting, Highlander) to the less obvious (Mission Impossible, Captain America, The Dark Knight Rises).

To celebrate its place on screen, VisitScotland has launched a guide called Set in Scotland, A Film Fan’s Odyssey.

In fact, the country was recently voted as the top destination for the silver screen.

VisitScotland have also produced a map (PDF) covering many of the locations used in films over the years. So whether you want to pop in to Eilean Donan Castle like those from Made of Honor or take a ride over the Glen Finnan Viaduct as Harry and Ron do in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (though perhaps on the train itself rather than a flying Ford Anglia) you can find out where to go.
