FROM THE BOOK
Amon Hen (hill of the eye): was built by the men of Númenor as a watch-house to mark the northern border of Gondor.
One of three tall hills on both sides of the Anduin and the Falls of Rauros, its companions are Amon Lhâw on the eastern side and Tol Brandir (the Tindrock) in the middle of the river.
This is one of the many locations where you can’t actually get onto the location, but you can park somewhere near it.
It’s located about half-way between Queenstown and Glenorchy (it says 8km outside Queenstown in the guidebook).
Basically it’s a big, tree-covered hill. Not exactly inspiring.
