Helm’s Deep: The great coomb, and the caverns behind it, that lay in the northern valleys of the White Mountains. Helm, King of Rohan, took refuge here with his people in the time of the invasion of Rohan by the Dunlendings. Named for Helm Hammerhand, the ninth King of Rohan
Helm’s deep was a combination of set and minature, the set no longer exists, but it was filmed in a quarry on Hayward’s Hill Road, near Wellington. The quarry is closed to the public.
